The balance in the internal White House debate over Iran has shifted back in favour of military action before President George Bush leaves office in 18 months, the Guardian has learned.

The shift follows an internal review involving the White House, the Pentagon and the state department over the last month. Although the Bush administration is in deep trouble over Iraq, it remains focused on Iran. A well-placed source in Washington said: “Bush is not going to leave office with Iran still in limbo.”(link)

So: Deliberate disinformation, or the biggest train wreck in the world coming at us in slo mo?

It could be either, of course.  The Bushies have flat out said they spread disinformation to the press, and Cheney is verifyably out of his goddamn mind. So, we are either going to basically spark WWIII (IV?V? is anyone counting these things anymore?) in the next 18 months, or this is just more nonsense from touched sources.

Either way, it’s time for a cold one.

Or eight.

Sleep tight kids.

This is one of the sadder things I’ve read in a while.  I had meant to talk about this case, but David Niewert does it so well, theres no real point in adding anything.

all these men who work the land should evaluate themselves and make a stand can’t they see beyond the rhetoric the lies and promises that don’t mean shit and all the men who learned to hate them they keep themselves hidden away they keep themselves upon the hill afraid that they’ll have to pay for all the crimes upon their head and all the men who learned to hate them

(last music reference for a while–promise)

This is the best news I’ve read in a while.  Will she actually run?  Would she win?  I really don’t know, but the answer is probably no on both counts.  It is  a good approach, though, and it’s easily replicable.  If you have a Democratic rep, demand that they endorse impeachment in 2 weeks or threaten to withdraw all support, and promise to vote for what ever green/socialist/workers world/whatever candidate that happens to be running in his district.  Threaten to run yourself.  Raise the specter of Nader in the back of their brains. Get aggressive with these fuckers, they should fold immediately; they are Democrats, after all.

Catching up

July 4, 2007

So a lot has happened in he past few weeks, and I really don’t have time to comment on all of it, but here’s a few short blurbs.

–Obama is as much of a useless, content-free, pile of charismatic bilge as Ronald Reagan was at the height of his powers. I’ve bitten my tongue on Obama, because I was waiting for him to articulate some actual view points, but after this, screw him. He has no experience, which means he’d be a weak leader, which means a vote for him is a vote for the DLC running the show for four years. Pass. Plus, anybody who doesn’t think an illegal, genocidal, invasion of a sovereign country constitutes a “grave, grave, breach” is not someone whose instincts I trust. Especially when he looks like he favors more of the same.

–600 dollars for a phone? Are you people out of your goddamn minds? Some where in me, there is a book legnth screed about the IQ killing power of technophilia. The chapter on yuppie consumer fetishism will use the word “fuck” more than it will use the word “the”.

–Once again: Is it intentional or is he just stupid?

–I should include Cheney’s latest use of the Chewbacca defense.  I have nothing to add to it, though.  What can you say at this point?

Insert snide comment about “free trade” here.

–You see, because a handful of morons on the other side of the Atlantic failed to explode anything, you should surrender more of your rights.   Thus speaks the voice of moderation.

I don’t know.  There’s always more.  But it will have to wait until next time.

Later

From the Assyrian International News Agency site:

Torture methods most frequently cited in the report include beatings to the body using implements such as cables, wooden sticks, metal rods, and hosepipes. Detainees also described how Asayish guards placed them in “stress positions” for extended periods, kept them blindfolded and handcuffed for several days at a time, and placed them in solitary confinement. With some exceptions, the report also found that conditions at Asayish facilities remained severely overcrowded and unhygienic.

Some of that sounds kinda familiar, huh?

Assyrians in Iraq

July 3, 2007

Assyrians are one of those small, strategically unimportant, groups that have fallen between the cracks  in our quest to pulverize Iraq and steal its oil.  Turns out they’re not doing so well.  Normally I would include an excerpt, but it is all pretty important.  Go read.

Here’ a link to the AINA Homepage.

Quiet in here.

July 3, 2007

Things have been crazy.  On top of that, I’ve been wanting to clarify that post below, but I never got the time, and I didn’t really wanna move on to other things before I dealt with it.  The problem is that it should be 4 thousand words or more, and should cover all aspects of resistance—critiquing each one of them in turn—and end up with a revolutionary program designed to restore the republic, bring back democracy, and pull our country back from the abyss.  Oh well, that’s not happening anytime soon. And I miss doing this, so instead of giving up now that I’ve painted myself into the what-is-to-be-done corner, I will simply say

a)I’m sick of the fucking puppets.

 b) I have no objection to escapism

c) seriously, what the hell is wrong with this country? Why aren’t we all in the streets burning tires?

I guess that sums it all up. Now back to your regularly scheduled whining.
